NFT Slang You Need To Know

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there… That moment you suddenly feel old when you can't recognize any of the abbreviations or slang ‘those pesky kids’ are using on the internet. To those just familiarizing themselves with the space, the NFT community does seem to have some funky words of it’s own. In an attempt to help make it a bit easier for all of you we’ve gathered a list of some crucial words you gotta get down.

  1. Airdrop: Receiving an ‘airdrop’ means you automatically get a certain amount of a given cryptocurrency or a new NFT dropped straight into your wallet for free. You may see projects do this for their early adopters.

  2. Apeing In: Buying something out of FOMO, and maybe not the most responsible decision to be made.

  3. Diamond Hands: With it’s own meme, emoji, and subject manner to plenty of NFT projects-this refers to someone who holds onto their asset no matter what the market entails.

  4. Floor: Referring to the ‘floor price’ or lowest price you can purchase a NFT from a given project from the secondhand market.

  5. Floor Sweep: Sweeping the floor refers to when a person will buy out a large collection of the cheapest NFTs from a project on the secondhand market.

  6. FUD: “Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt” referring to the bad news that a project may face in it’s lifetime. Like rude tweets, discord messages, even lies that may spread about a project.

  7. Gas: Refers to the price of making a transaction on the blockchain.

  8. Minting: In buying a new NFT piece from a project, you’re ‘minting’ that piece.

  9. Rugpull: In simple terms, is getting scammed into a project solely in it to make a few quick bucks.

  10.  Whale: Think of the people with huge crypto-wallets, they have the power to massively sway the market and switch things up.

Some other fun terms you may see…

GM/GN: Goodmorning/Goodnight, the NFT community loves to support eachother in this way and you’re bound to see it on your twitter feed each day.

WAGMI/GMI: “We are going to make it”/ ”Gonna make it”

Fren/Ser: Friend/Sir, and another one of those friendly terms you can throw into any message.

LFG: “Let’s Fucking GO!” is used to hype up and show excitment around a project.
